PICS Siblings Project
The PICS project had, through contacts with local hospitals, identified ten families who had a child suffering from multiple sclerosis or some other dibilitating disease that might benefit from a holiday together. Those families were able to enjoy a family residential experience at Climping Camp in the South West, taking part in canoeing, horse riding, and other outdoor sporting activities as a whole family. Facilities at the camp are especially adapted to enable disadvantaged children and young people to experience things in much the same way as the rest of the family, giving opportunities that had not previously been possible.
Often with this type of activity holiday not all members of the family can take part at the same time; siblings who are able get left out whilst the family and helpers are busy with their child who is disabled. This project overcame anyone being left out and ensured the ten families had a holiday to remember.
A strategic grant supported this project.
