The Community Foundation for Gloucestershire is asking you to consider supporting their Surviving Winter Appeal to help older people who desperately need the extra support during the winter. Support from young and old alike is welcome. If you receive the Winter Fuel Payment perhaps you would consider a donation.
Nearly 300 vulnerable people in Gloucestershire died in the winter of 2009/2010 from causes directly attributable to the cold and poor living conditions. Of 350,645 households in Gloucestershire, over 45,000 of them live in fuel poverty - many in remote rural areas. Many elderly and vulnerable people suffer in silence during the coldest months. It is shocking that in the 21st century so many people in our society struggle to stay warm and healthy during the coldest weather. Recent rises in energy prices means more people than ever face considerable hardship this winter.

The Foundation is calling on all who can afford to forego some, or all of their Winter Fuel Payment (WFP), to make a donation to help those who need extra help during the difficult months ahead. The payment is made during November and December to everyone over 60 and on the electoral roll. Gloucestershire Community Foundation will use our ready network of charities and community groups to identify winter need amongst the elderly and vulnerable and ensure that the money raised goes to those who need it most.
